Rachel McAdams Reveals Why She didn’t Join Mean Girls Walmart Commercial
For their Black Friday sale campaign, Walmart reunited the cast members from the 2004 film, Mean Girls, to grab the attention of customers. While most of the popular faces could be seen in the commercial, Rachel McAdams didn't revive her role as the iconic Regina George.

Mean Girls has once again created buzz as the iconic film is set to make a comeback with its musical version this January. While the craze for the film is quite high among fans, the giant retailer company Walmart made sure to use it in their favour. Recently, for their Black Friday sale campaign, they reunited the cast members from the 2004 original film to grab the attention of customers. While most of the popular faces could be seen in the commercial, Rachel McAdams didn’t revive her role as the iconic Regina George.

Speaking about why she did not take up her role as Regina in the creative commercial, Rachel told Variety, “I don’t know; I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest. A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag. Also…I didn’t know that everyone was doing it. I would, of course, always love to be part of a ‘Mean Girls’ reunion and hang with my plastics, but yeah, I found that out later."

The commercial brought back some of the popular elements of the 2004 film and combined Walmart holiday deals with the legendary Mean Girls cast. It shows the beloved North Shore High School characters as adults, such as Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) as a guidance counsellor, Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert) as a stage mom, and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried) as the weather reporter.

In the upcoming musical, Renee Rapp is going to be seen as Regina George and sharing her thoughts about the actress playing the iconic character, Rachel McAdams shared with ET, “I don’t think she can do anything wrong. She is amazing. She’s already got me beat with that voice. I’m just excited to see her incarnation. It’s such a great character. It’s so much fun to play. I hope she has a great time with it. I can’t wait to see it."

Mean Girls musical trailer was released last month which revisits The Plastics and the Burn Book, but with a fresh twist. Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for their upcoming film. The planned film is a remake of the 2018 Broadway musical based on Tina Fey’s 2004 teen comedy of the same name. Angourie Rice takes on the role of new student Cady Heron this time.
