CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited said it has restored power to more than 97 per cent of services in the Thane-hit Cuddalore district. A press release issued on Monday said that power supply had been restored to 6,91,847 services other than agricultural services, in the Electricity Distribution Circle (EDC) of Cuddalore. In the Villupuram EDC, power has been restored to all the 8,44,124 services. While the electricity board had mobilised 10,000 personnel from across the State for restoration works in Cuddalore, the man power had come down to 5,100 owing to the Pongal holidays.Though 674 of 683 villages in Cuddalore district have been restored electricity supply, the release said nine villages required more attention since there was water-logging and lengthy conductors had to be strung along with laying of river-crossing cables. So far, 24,000 poles of different sizes have reached the two districts. These were moblilised from 120 pole casting yards from across Tamil Nadu.Further, the Tamil Nadu electricity board has also procured 29,279 additional poles from States such as Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh. The progress of work was being monitored closely and works in the nine villages are expected to be completed by January 19, the release said.
