Actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar took to social media on Monday to share the trailer of their upcoming film Sonchiriya.
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, who much like Vishal Bhardwaj has an affinity towards rustic rebel stories (Ishqiya, Udta Punjab), the film narrates the story of the famous dacoits of Chambal and their on and off rendezvous with the local police.
The 2.43-minute trailer packs a punch with impressive performances by a stellar cast—Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and especially Ashutosh Rana, who after playing a series of positive character roles, has finally returned home, effortlessly playing the baddie, this time a bitter cop with a personal vendetta.
After three films, Padenekar has established herself as the de-facto choice for rural/middle class women roles. Her casting in this film, therefore, comes as no surprise. What is surprising, however, is Rajput—the lover boy—being at the heart of a drama as violent and gritty as this. But he impresses.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala-backed RSVP Movies, Sonchiriya takes you to deep into the hinterland, where bullets are fired at the blink of an eye and people leave homes everyday knowing that they may never return.
In the sea of biopics, political and patriotic films that will crowd the theatres this Republic Day and election season, Sonchiriya stands out in what it has to offer. Written by Chaubey and Sudip Sharma, it is slated to release on February 8.
