Vijay to Retire from Movies After Entry into Politics? The GOAT Director Says 'I Asked Him and...'
Venkat Prabhu discusses The GOAT, clarifying political references and Vijay's future in acting amidst his political aspirations.

Director Venkat Prabhu recently shed light on his highly anticipated film, The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT), starring Vijay. Following the trailer’s release, the director addressed speculation surrounding Vijay’s political aspirations and how they might have influenced the film.

Venkat was asked whether Vijay’s budding political career had any impact on the film’s content, particularly regarding the use of the song Marudhamalai Maamaniye, which some viewers felt had political connotations. In response, Venkat clarified, “It’s not a political reference; it’s a Ghilli reference. It’s Ghilli-tical. You’ve all seen the film. Why don’t you ask the makers of Ghilli about using Lord Murugan as a political tool?”

He further emphasised that Vijay was clear about keeping politics out of the film. “Vijay sir didn’t want any line to be written that furthered his political agenda. GOAT is a commercial film. Of course, some dialogues in the trailer might allude to his political career, but when you see the film, you’ll see how it fits the narrative. There are no political references. Vijay sir sees a film as a film; we’ve never discussed politics,” Venkat stated.

The director also addressed the much-debated question of whether Vijay would continue acting after potentially entering politics. Venkat shared his personal wish to see Vijay continue his acting career, saying, “Just like everyone here, and scores of Vijay fans, I too want to see him continue acting. In fact, I asked him if he would balance both. He just smiled and said, we’ll see. It will always be our dream to see him on screen. But he has a dream too; an aspiration. And I think we should support it.”

When questioned about his family members potentially joining Vijay’s political party, Venkat humorously deflected, saying, “Anyone could join. Premgi could. But more importantly, why should I tell about my family’s thoughts and feelings? Do I ask about your family issues? But anyway, since this is brought up, I will sit with all my family members, take them into confidence, and tell them that you’ve asked such an important question, and we need to discuss it pronto. Then, I will tell all of you what our political plans are.”

The GOAT trailer hints at Vijay playing dual roles as father and son. The film, which also stars Meenakshi Chaudhary, Sneha, Laila, Prabhu Deva, and others, is slated for release in September.
