When New-mom Alia Bhatt Spoke About Seeking Therapy Every Week: 'There's Nothing Like I've Got This'
Alia Bhatt had once talked about how important it is to take care of your mental health as a new parent.

Alia Bhatt has always spoken openly about her life, not just her acting career. Whether it’s her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, her daughter Raha, or her fitness routine, she’s honest about it all. In a 2023 interview with Vogue India, Alia, who had recently become a mom, talked about how important it is to take care of your mental health as a new parent. Since her daughter Raha was born in November 2022, she’s been going to therapy sessions to help deal with the challenges of being a new mom. She also mentioned how many new moms feel guilty sometimes, and it’s important to talk about that too.

“I’m always wondering what people are thinking. Do they actually think I’m managing well, or are they only saying it to placate me? Even if there isn’t judgment, you feel very critical of yourself. But I work hard on my mental health — I go to therapy every week where I voice these fears. And it helps me understand that this is not something that I will be able to figure out on day one or five or even ten; it’s an ever-evolving, ever-growing process. You have to be able to pick up the pieces of yourself and build anew every day. There’s nothing like, ‘Oh, I’ve got it together… I’m coping excellently… I have all the answers.’ No one has all the answers,” the actor had shared.

Besides talking about being a mom, Alia also shared her struggles with body image, in a chat with Mojo Story. She said that the pressure from public attention in her profession made her feel like she had to meet certain standards. To take care of her mental health, she started seeking therapy during the lockdown. This helped her become more aware of her worries about her weight and she’s been working on dealing with them in a healthier way. “That’s a struggle that’s been constant. Everyone around me would see it, but I would not see it,” said Alia, adding, “When I started therapy, I did it just as a hygiene thing. To take care of my body, I go to the gym; I need to take care of my mind as well. It’s something I started amidst the lockdown when everybody was going through a hard time, and I thought that maybe this would be a good time to start. I started as a generic thing, but what I discovered through those sessions is that I have so many issues when it comes to… I always knew I was anal when it comes to my weight because I’m facing the camera.”
