On Tuesday, a Delhi court granted singer-rapper Honey Singh and his wife Shalini Talwar a divorce after nearly 13 years of marriage. The Principal Judge of the Family Court, Paramjit Singh, approved the second motion filed in the case, concluding a legal process that lasted for almost two and a half years. As per the Hindu Marriage Act, a second motion is filed six to 18 months after the initial divorce petition is submitted. This timeframe serves as an interregnum period, allowing the parties involved to think about their decision to seek a divorce.

Honey Singh tied the knot with Shalini Talwar in January 2011. After 11 years of marriage, they jointly filed for divorce in September 2022 under section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act. The court approved their petition, allowing a six-month interregnum period for reflection before finalising the divorce.

Advocate Ishan Mukherjee, appearing for Honey, told Hindustan Times, “The second motion has been granted and the divorce decree has been issued.” However, he refused to comment any further about the matter, stating that it is a private matrimonial matter. Advocate Vivek Singh, counsel appearing for Talwar, also refused to comment on the issue stating that it is a matrimonial issue.”

For those unversed, Shalini Talwar had accused the singer of domestic violence. She claimed to have experienced mental, physical, emotional, sexual, and economic abuse from Singh and his family, living in constant fear. However, after the court granted the divorce and the two parties reached a settlement, the allegations were withdrawn.

Yo Yo Honey Singh confirmed his relationship with Tina Thadani at an event in December 2022. They met through friends in Dubai. Tina is featured in Honey Singh’s new song ‘Paris Ka Trip’ and is a Canadian actress and filmmaker based in Mumbai. She directed a short film called ‘The Leftovers,’ highlighting the struggles of the lower-income group in Mumbai’s slums.
