Actor Anil Grover, Sunil Grover’s brother, shared the screen with Shah Rukh Khan and Vicky Kaushal in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. In a recent chat with News18 Showsha, he talked about landing the big film, a special and ‘magical’ day on the sets with SRK that he will always remember and working with Vicky Kaushal.
Recalling how he was shortlisted for the film, Anil shared, “When I first got the call from the casting director’s office saying that I’ve been selected for the role, I couldn’t believe it. It took a while for the feeling to sink in. I had initially auditioned for Buggu’s part. Later, I was told to audition for Balli’s part as well. Then, after a few rounds of auditions and look tests, I came on board as Balli. I got a a ‘jadoo ki jhappi’ from Raju Sir and it all started from there.’
Speaking of working with Shah Rukh Khan, Anil said that the superstar is treats his co-actors so well that it seem unbelievable at times. Recounting one such instance, he said, “There was a scene, where I had to fall on the ground. And I was not able to do that without getting hurt. So, he called his team and arranged for beanbags. It doesn’t stop there – he also helped me wear kneepads so my landing on the ground would be safe. I thought to myself, ‘ Itne Bade aadmi Ko, Kya, Zaroorat Hai Yeh Sab Karne Ki, Apna Kaam Chhod Ke?'”
Dunki also stars Vicky Kaushal in a cameo. Looking back at working with him, Anil said that he is a gem of a person to work with. “He’s a true Punjabi, and a brilliant person. There’s just so much to learn from him, his craft and his journey,” he added.
Anil’s brother, Sunil Grover, is a much-loved actor-comedian in the industry and even shared screen with Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan. Remembering his brother’s biggest advice to him, he said, “He always told me to hard work because there’s no substitute for it. I have followed that path so far and intend to continue doing so in the future.”
