After a dominant start in the three-match T20I series against Australia, India will be looking to continue their momentum in the second clash. India were humiliated in the ODIs, having conceded a 0-3 defeat against the visitors. They bounced back perfectly with a nine-wicket win against Australia in their opening T20I. The game started with India winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.
A combined eight-wicket haul from Titas Sadhu, Shreyanka Patil and Deepti Sharma enabled the hosts to curb the Aussies at a humble 141 runs. In the second half, India put up a brilliant show as Smriti Mandhana smashed 52 runs before being dismissed by Tahila McGrath. Next, it was Shafali Verma who scored 64 runs in 44 balls while belting six boundaries and three sixes. It will be interesting to see if India can pull off a similar performance a second consecutive time in their next game.
The second T20I between India and Australia will be hosted at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on January 7. Australia have been phenomenal in the ongoing bilateral series. Their opening T20I might not have played in their favour but they will now be even hungrier for a victory as we head into the second clash of the series. The Aussies will need a win to stay alive in the three-match T20Is.
