Mumbai Flights Witness Delays, Diversions After Private Jet Skids Off Runway
Flights operations resumed after the runway, which was closed for some time following incident, was open post DGCA clearance

Several flights to and from Mumbai airport are witnessing a delay after a private jet skidded off the runaway amid heavy rain on Thursday. The runway, which was closed for some time, is now open for operations post DGCA clearance.

Three people were injured following Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) witnessed a runway excursion today involving a Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL, operating a flight from Vishakhapatnam to Mumbai. This has resulted in delays in arrival and departing flights at the airport, CSMIA said.

All eight persons including the pilot and co-pilot, 1 crew member and 5 passengers were hospitalised. No casualties have been reported so far.

Several flights were diverted to other airports due to runway closure at Mumbai airport. Two flights of Akasa Air and Vistara were diverted to Goa earlier while Columbo to Mumbai Vistara flight diverted to Hyderabad.

A Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) spokesperson said, “On 14.09.2023, M/s VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL operating flight from Vizag to Mumbai with 06 passengers and 02 crew members on board, veered off the runway at Mumbai International Airport. The incident occurred at approximately 17:08 PM today. There are no casualties.  CSMIA’s airside team is on-ground to assist with the clearance on-site.
