Veteran actress Saira Banu took to her Instagram handle on Tuesday to celebrate the 39th anniversary of the 1984 movie Duniya. In the film, which starred Dilip Kumar in the lead, Saira Banu made a special appearance. Saira spoke about Dilip Kumar and how his tragic scenes affected him on screen. In her heart-warming note, Saira also talked about Karan Johar and shared how she has seen him growing. Duniya was produced by Yash Johar’s Dharma Productions.
To begin with, Siara Banu recalled how she was nervous when offered to make a special appearance in Duniya. “Sahib sprung the surprise of my life, asking me to do a ‘Guest Appearance’ as his wife in “DUNIYA”. You could have knocked me down with a feather when he said this to me. I ventured to tell him that it is years that I haven’t faced the camera and have forgotten about my work, to which in response he laughed and told me a swimmer never forgets to swim when he is once again in the water,” she wrote.
Saira further shared her experiences of working with the Johar Family, Yash, Hiroo and interacting with Karan. “In my own way I wanted to thank Yash Joharji and his wonderful down-to-earth wife Hiroo Johar who has always been equally indispensable, warm and friendly in fact a perfect complement of largesse of heart as her Yashji. I have seen Karan growing up as an energetic youngster romping around us, especially at Ootacamund where shooting was on. He is a wonderful helpful youngster for us always,” she added.
Saira Banu then talked about the tragic death scene in Duniya and wrote, “Then in the script came a death scene where the wife is run over by a truck by the villains. You know, it is well known in my family that though being an actress, I have never ever stayed long enough in the theatre to watch any of Sahib’s famous Tragedy King death scenes, not even in ‘GANGA JAMUNA’.”
“So I turned around to Sahib and Ramesh Talwar, the director with a questioning look and I said to Sahib ‘You have been a Master at this!’ He laughed and joked that he had performed so many of these scenes that he had run out of different ways to perform these death scenes, consequently his personality was being affected and he had turned morose in real life, so his DOCTORS advised him to switch over to Comedy Films and he did “AZAAD”, the first of his series of lighter roles,” she concluded.
