Actor Siddharth was recently promoting his movie ‘Chikku’ in Bengaluru when the event was disrupted and forced to cancel by an alleged pro-Kannada group. Reacting to the same, the actor has now said that it is ‘disappointing’ to see his flm’s event being cancelled due to the ongoing Cauvery water battle with Tamil Nadu. Siddharth argued that his movie has no relation to the dispute between the two states and mentioned that the ruckus caused a huge loss to the makers.
“Yesterday, in Bengaluru there was an incident. The backstory of it is that this is the first time, as a producer, I screened my film to many ahead of the movie’s theatrical release. It was shown to the media in Chennai and Kochi. There was a plan for such a show in Bengaluru as well. I had plans to show the film to about 2,000 students ahead of the release. No one has done it so far. There was also a plan to screen the film for Kannada stars that night. But everything was cancelled by us as a mark of respect to the bandh. We incurred a huge loss, but beyond that, it was disappointing that we couldn’t share a good film with people there,” Siddharth said during an Instagram live session as quoted by Indian Express.
“The press was supposed to watch the film after the interaction, but you all saw what happened there. It happened in front of many cameras. I don’t want to talk about it. When the film is getting a good response, I don’t want to talk about anything to distract the attention. There’s no relation between my film and the issue. I believe my social responsibility will show up in the films I make spending my money,” the actor added.
For the unversed, Siddharth was promoting his upcoming movie ‘Chikku’ on September 28 in Bengaluru when members of an alleged pro-Kannada group disrupted the event and created a ruckus. Reportedly, they stopped the event midway and asked the actor to cancel it. As reported by the news agency ANI, the members told Siddharth that it is not the ‘right time’ for him to promote his movie as Karnataka is battling over the Cauvery water with Tamil Nadu. As a result, even before Siddharth could address the media and talk about his films, he had to walk out of the press conference.
Talking about Siddharth’s movie Chikku, it is helmed by SU Arun Kumar and is said to be an intense family drama. Reportedly, the film is about a man who is doing all he could to find his lost niece. Siddharth is not just playing the lead in the film but is also producing it.
