A total of 2,94,317 students have been declared ?fail? by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), Patna in the intermediate exams 2021. This year the overall pass percentage has dropped from 80.44 per cent to 78.04 per cent. Most of the students have failed in the science stream ? 1,27,864, closely followed by arts stream in which 1,60,066 candidates had failed. In commerce, 6295 students could not get through, as per the data shared by Bihar Board.

Candidates need to secure a minimum of 33 per cent aggregate marks in order to obtain a pass certificate from the Bihar Board. Those who are unable to obtain the required numbers are declared failed, however, all is not lost for these students. Those who failed to obtain minimum passing marks in one or two subjects will have to appear for a compartment exam that will give them a chance to improve their performance.

Compartment Exams

The Bihar Board will hold the compartmental exams for intermediate students from April 29 to May 10. Students who wish to take these exams will have to fill an application form. The application form for these exams will be available at biharboardonline.bihar.gov.in from April 5 to April 10. The result for these compartmental exams will be declared in May. The exact dates are not decided yet. Students who clear compartmental exams will be declared pass and they will get to pursue higher education.

However, students who fail in more than two subjects will not get this improvement chance and will have to reappear for the exam next year.

Re-evaluation of Results

Students who think that they have not been marked fairly. If they think there is an error in the evaluation or calculation process, they can apply for re-evaluation. The application window for the same will begin on April 1 and conclude on April 7. Interested students can apply at biharboardonline.gov.in. A fee of Rs 70 per subject will be applicable.

Relaxations

While there is no relaxation in passing marks, keeping the covid situation in view, the BSEB reduced the syllabus for the board exam as well as changed the paper pattern. To make the exam scoring for class 12 candidates, the Board has introduced options for every question asked in the exam.

Announced last year, another relaxation option available to students had is that of an additional subject. Students have a choice of appearing for six subjects instead of five. Those who fail in the main paper will get marks as obtained in the additional subject, as per the rule. The total will be calculated as per four major subjects and the additional subject or sixth subject opted by the student.

BSEB is the first state to conduct the intermediate and matric exams amid the pandemic. The exam was conducted from February 2 to 13 at various exam centres across the state. Nearly 13 lakh candidates have appeared for the class 12 board exams. Now, BSEB is set to declare the result of matric exams. Over 16.84 lakh students had registered to appear for Bihar Board matric exams result of which is expected to be announced in the first week of April.
