The Original G&T by Priyanka Rath, Mixologist, Yakii-Asian Tapas Bar & Restaurant
G&T originated in Calcutta, the state of India in the 1840’s. It originated as a cure to malaria, as Gin has Botanicals in it and Tonic has quinine. Quinine was so bitter in taste that people couldn’t drink it and that’s how tonic water originated. Thus giving birth to Gin and Tonic!
