'My Biggest Learning Curve Was Being Fortunate Enough to Play Under Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni': Faf du Plessis
Du Plessis talked about his initial seasons in IPL where he played under Dhoni's leadership which was a learning curve in his career.

Veteran South Africa batter Faf du Plessis asserted that one of the biggest learning curves in his career was playing under Stephen Flemming’s coaching and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s leadership at Chennai Super Kings. Du Plessis will be next seen playing in SA20 for Joburg Super Kings – the franchise which had a CSK connection.

Du Plessis was an integral part of CSK camp for many years as he left the franchise in 2022 and joined Royal Challengers Bangalore where he took over the captaincy charge from Virat Kohli.

In a press conference ahead of S20 Season 2, Du Plessis talked about his initial seasons in IPL where he played under Dhoni’s leadership which was a learning curve in his career.

“Firstly, it was great to be part of that dressing room as a young guy. Probably my biggest learning curve was being fortunate enough to be there under Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni really at the start of my initial journey. Just to see the big guns do things, it was great to learn from them. During my first season, I was just sitting and asking questions and observing them,” Faf du Plessis said.

“Also, by playing under some great leaders, you also get to understand that it’s really important to do things that work for you. It’s not possible to copy different styles all the time,” Faf du Plessis added.

The Proteas legend further talked about Dhoni’s calmness on the field and how his relaxed attitude helped the bowling attack to do their job without much pressure.

“MS is Captain Cool, as they call him. He is always very calm under pressure. So it’s always important that under pressure or when the stakes are a bit more higher, you remain relaxed and it makes a big difference to the bowling attack, especially. Very lucky to have played under him,” he added.
