Akhilesh Yadav announces new health initiatives
Akhilesh said a need for expansion of medical and health facilities was being felt as doctors were still not available in villages.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday announced expansion of department of emergency medicine and setting up of advanced opthalmic centre at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences.

The CM made the announcement while addressing the 17th convocation of the institute and said the state government would provide funds for the two departments as well as for the overall development of SGPGI.

Akhilesh said a need for expansion of medical and health facilities was being felt as doctors were still not available in villages.

Speaking on the occasion Governor BL Joshi said medical system hone able doctors and improving public health should be the agenda.

Chief Secretary Javed Usmani said the prestige earned by the institute in less than 25 years was appreciable and even patients from neighbouring Nepal and Bangladesh came here for treatment.

Usmani said on the initiative of the CM a fund had been set up by the institute so that those living below poverty line get high quality treatment free of cost.
