Patna: Former Bihar chief Minister and expelled Janata Dal United leader Jitan Ram Manjhi skipped the Bihar Assembly's Budget Session's inaugural day on Wednesday. The joint session of Bihar Legislative Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council was addressed by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi followed by trust vote seeked by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Legislative Assembly.

Kumar got 140 votes in his favour that legitimised his position as state's Chief Minister. The ruling Janata Dal (United) on Tuesday issued whip to party legislators, including the dissident group of MLAs led by former CM, to vote for the Nitish Kumar government.

The buzz in the political circles was that the Manjhi group of MLAs, said to be 10 in number, had approached the Opposition BJP to boycott the trust vote so that it could not take place, but it did not happen. BJP staged a walkout just after the trust vote to register its protest.

Kumar replaced Manjhi as Chief Minister on February 20. Manjhi had resigned from his post alleging "threat and intimidation" by the rival group of MLAs led by Kumar. Along with a group of loyalists, he launched a political front, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), to "expose the real face of Kumar."
