Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Wednesday tendered unconditional apology for hoisting the national flag upside down during Republic Day celebrations here.
"We are sorry for the incident. The person who tied the flag should have made proper check before hoisting of the Tricolour," party's senior leader and former minister B B Harichandan said.
Claiming that they had no intention to dishonour the Tricolour, Harichandan said, "It was a mistake and we admit that".
The party leaders and the mediapersons pointed out the mistake as soon as Harichandan unfurled the flag at the party's state headquarters here.
The flag was again hoisted with due respect.
In another incident, the Tricolour fell down from atop the pole at the ruling BJD office as soon as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik pulled the string.
"A new rope was arranged immediately and the flag hoisted thereafter with due honour," said party's functionary Narendra Swain.
