Chennai building collapse: DMK protests, demands CBI probe
Sixty-one people were killed after an 11-storey building collapsed in Chennai last month.

Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam held a protest rally on Saturday demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Chennai building collapse. Sixty-one people were killed after an 11-storey building collapsed in Chennai last month.

While Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has accused the builders of the accident and promised action against them, the police have arrested six people in connection with the case.

DMK chief K Karunanidhi had earlier too targeted the Jayalalithaa government over the setting up of a one-man commission to investigate the Chennai building collapse tragedy. Alleging that the one-man commission was an eye wash to help the government escape, the veteran leader suggested a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

He said that an investigation by the CBI alone can expose the irregularities and beneficiaries.
