Journalist-activist Vineet Narain has sought to become a party in the coal scam hearing involving the CBI and Law Minister Ashwani Kumar.
New Delhi: Journalist-activist Vineet Narain on Friday moved the Supreme Court with an application seeking to become a party in the coal scam hearing involving the CBI and Law Minister Ashwani Kumar.
The apex court is expected to hear the CBI's affidavit after reports emerged that Ashwani Kumar had met the CBI director and PMO officials before the agency filed its report in the court.
In his letter, Narain has advocated turning the present Chief Vigilance Commission into a Lokpal and making the CBI exclusively responsible to that body. He has also argued that the CBI could never remain unbiased in any important investigations.
It was Narain's PIL in the Hawala case of 1997 in which the SC had framed guidelines for CBI's autonomy.
