UP CM Yogi Adityanath expressed shock over the demise of the BJP's Moradabad candidate and called it to be an "irreparable loss" for the party

Day after voting for the Lok Sabha elections’ first phase in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad took place, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate for the constituency, Kunwar Sarvesh, passed away due to a heart attack in Delhi.

BJP’s Moradabad MLA Ritesh Gupta confirmed Sarvesh’s passing at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Sarvesh’s untimely demise and said that he “remained dedicated to public service and social service till his last breath”.

“I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of BJP candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha seat and former MP Kunwar Sarvesh Singh ji. He remained dedicated to public service and social service till his last breath. His demise is an irreparable loss for the party. I pray to God to give strength to his family to bear this deep grief. Om Shanti!” the PM said in his X post.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed shock over the demise of the BJP’s Moradabad candidate and called it to be an “irreparable loss” for the party.

“I am shocked by the demise of BJP candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency and former MP Kunwar Sarvesh Singh ji. This is an irreparable loss for the BJP family. My condolences are with the bereaved family,” CM Yogi said in a post on X.

The Uttar Pradesh CM further said, “I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his feet and provide strength to the bereaved family and their supporters to bear this loss. Om Shanti!”

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh condoled Sarvesh’s demise and said that he was “grassroots leader”, who also “worked hard to strengthen” the BJP.

“I am deeply saddened by the demise of former MP of Uttar Pradesh, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh ji. He was a grassroots leader and was very popular among the people. He also worked hard to strengthen the party. He believed in fighting for issues related to the people. May God give patience and strength to the bereaved family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!” the Defence Minister said in his post on X.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to X and expressed sadness over Sarvesh’s demise. He also termed it to be an “irreparable loss” for his family, Moradabad and the BJP family.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of our BJP candidate from Moradabad, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh Ji. Just a few days ago, I had gone to Moradabad to campaign for him. Like always, I had a cordial meeting and discussion with him. His demise is an irreparable loss for his family as well as all the people of Moradabad and the BJP family,” Shah said in his post.

He further wrote, ” I express my condolences to the bereaved family and his supporters. May God give a place to the departed soul in his lotus feet. Om Shanti.”

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also expressed grief over the passing of Sarvesh.

“National President of Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister Shri Akhilesh Yadav has expressed grief over the demise of Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Shri Sarvesh Singh from Moradabad Lok Sabha,” the party said in a post on X.

“Shri Akhilesh Yadav ji has expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the peace of the departed soul,” it added.

Polling for the first of the seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections, involving 102 constituencies. The results for the polls are to be declared on June 4.

Who Was Kunwar Sarvesh?

Sarvesh, who passed away at the age of 72, was among the 12 candidates in the fray for the elections from Moradabad parliamentary constituency.

He served as Lok Sabha MP from the constituency from 2014-2019. However, he lost the previous general elections (2019) to Samajwadi Party’s ST Hasan, who was fielded jointly by SP, BSP and RLD.

Sarvesh was a five-time BJP MLA from Thakurdwara assembly constituency in Moradabad from 1991-2007 and 2012-2014. He is survived by his wife, a son and daughter.
