DMK announces candidate list for Lok Sabha polls
The list was announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Chennai: The DMK on Sunday announced its list of 21 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls. The party has fielded party chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's elder son MK Azhagiri from Madurai.

Azhagiri who is based in Tirupathi, will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the first time. He was appointed the party’s south zone Organising Secretary after the DMK’s victory in the Tirumangalam by-elections in 2009.

Union Ministers TR Baalu, A Raja and SS Palanimanickam and former IT Minister and Karunanidhi’s grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran have been renominated.

While some sitting MPs have been renominated, the party has dropped Union Ministers Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan and S Reghupathy.

The candidates list, released by Karunanidhi, has two women candidates, two actors and a few new faces.

The party had hinted on Saturday that they want to infuse fresh blood in politics in upcoming elections.

Actors D Napolean and JK Ritheesh, the grandson of state minister Suba, Thangavelan, are from the tinseltown, while Helen Davidson and Gayathri Sridharan are the women debutants.

While Napolean has been a former MLA, Ritheesh is an upcoming actor and has turned out to be first time lucky.

Other new names include SR Jeyadurai, party's legal wing secretary and a long-serving Chairman of the suburban Alandur Municipality RS Bharathy, TK S Elangovan and Tamarai Selvan.
