Kolkata: Ruling Left Front Chairman Biman Bose on Sunday accused the Election Commission of being more active against the CPI(M) when it came to detecting alleged violations of model code of conduct than in case of opposition Trinamool Congress.
"The model code of conduct of the Election Commission is more and more being used against us", Bose told reporters here after releasing the list of the front candidates for the ensuing state assembly polls.
The comments of Bose, who is also the CPI(M) state Secretary, came in the backdrop of complaints against several West Bengal ministers having breached the model code of conduct.
CPI(M) had alleged that Trinamool Congress was not following the rules and demanded the EC take action against the party.
"Trinamool Congress has not yet removed party cut-outs from government offices and the party-run Kolkata Municipal Corporation violating the model code of conduct while we have done so (removal)", Bose said.
Claiming a red flag was removed from a place in South 24 Parganas district recently, Bose said "I want to know who has given the right to EC to remove red flag. The Trinamool is allergic to red flag and now it appears that EC is dancing to the tunes of Trinamool," he said.
Bose's ire against the EC came close on the heels of the commission seeking a report on charges of violation of model code against CPI(M) leader and West Bengal Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta.
Besides, there were complaints of flouting model code against several other state ministers.
