Exercise restraint, TN CM tells AIADMK workers after Jayalalithaa denied bail
In a press release issued by the state government, the CM advised the AIADMK workers to desist from protests and bandhs.

Bangalore: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Panneerselvam on Tuesday urged AIADMK supporters to exercise restraint in the background of the denial of bail to their chief J Jayalalithaa.

In a press release issued by the state government, the CM advised the AIADMK workers to desist from protests and bandhs. He also blamed the AIADMK's political rivals for spreading rumours about lack of law and order in Tamil Nadu.

"Everything is under control," his statement said.

In a huge blow to the AIADMK, the Karnataka HC on Tuesday denied bail to Jayalalithaa in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case. Denying bail to the convicted leader, the court said that there wasn't sufficient ground for awarding bail to her.

"The High Court has correctly rejected the bail for Jayalalithaa," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy, who has been leading the campaign against her, said.

The AIADMK chief, along with her key aide Sasikala and two others were convicted in the case on September 27. A special court in Bangalore sentenced her to four years imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PoCA). The court also slapped a fine of Rs 100 crore on the former CM in connection with the case.
