New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal during his first tenure as Delhi's CM faced huge criticism after the failure of his much publicised 'janata durbar' in January 2014 which saw uncontrollable crowds. Following the chaos, mismanagement and the near-stampede like situation during the darbar, the then Aam Aadmi Party-government decided to take note of the grievances of the people through an online set-up, phone as well as by post instead of meeting people on road.
The failure of Kejriwal's janata durbar was used by AAP's rivals to portray it as an outfit that was not fit to govern.
But more than a year later after the fiasco, when Kejriwal and six other AAP MLAs took oath as ministers at the Ramlila Maidan, about 60,000 enthusiastic audience witnessed the show. The AAP volunteers who were managing the crowd along with the security forces, ensured a smooth day and earned a lot of credit for the same.
"To us it is a challenge and we want to make sure that we excel well," said Miran Haider, an AAP volunteer who struggled hard to get the people seated.
With the presence of party members like former Miss India and Bollywood actress Gul Panag and Jaaved Jaffrey it was tedious job to control the crowd who jumped over barricades to take autographs and pictures with them. AAP leader Yogendra Yadav was caught between the supporters and some volunteers had to make a human chain to provide a passage to the leader.
The body language of the volunteers, majority of them in their twenties, looked confident and they dealt with every situation in the most composed manner. It is to their credit that the huge crowd was moved in and out of the ground without much chaos.
