From one budget to another. Day after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented Budget 2018 in Parliament, it’s the turn of his Kerala counterpart Thomas Issac to present the budgetary allocations for the southern state. Presenting the Kerala Budget 2018, the Pinarayi Vijayan government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for development of coastal areas, raised tax on Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) to 200% and doubled the price of beer. Thomas Issac has also announced that a robot developed by a Kozhikode native will be used to clean sewers and manholes, putting an end to manual scavenging in the state. He has earmarked Rs 10 crore for the welfare of transgenders in the state. Another important Budget will see the light of day today — the one to be presented in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra.
