Bangalore: The Lokayukta police was on Saturday unable to meet former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa when they went to his residence to drop the arrest warrant against him.
According to reports, there was no clue on the whereabouts of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, and all his secretaries have switched off their mobile phones.
Earlier on Saturday, the Lokayukta Court rejected Yeddyurappa’s bail plea and issued arrest warrant against him in connection with cases regarding alleged irregularities in denotification of government lands.
The court also denied bail to Yeddyurappa's former ministerial colleague SN Krisnaiah Setty. However it granted bail to his sons and his son-in-law.
The Karnataka BJP issued a statement on Saturday saying that Yeddyurappa would move higher court against the Lokayukta court warrant.
The Lokayukta Court has asked the police to produce Yeddyurappa before the court on Tuesday.
Yeddyurappa can seek bail on Tuesday or he can challenge it before the high court.
Reacting to the development, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that it showed the double standard of the BJP.
"A bail is denied only when court finds some case against a person. This is the CM who was reluctant to leave office and when he left, made a lot of noise," said Singhvi.
JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy had exposed the scam and advocate Sirajin Basha is the main complainant.
BJP MLA Hemachandra Sagar was also granted bail in the case.
Earlier the Karnataka High Court had also rejected his bail plea.
