Koda may resign but independents don't want Soren

New Delhi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda has said that he will take a decision to quit only after talks with independent MLAs in Ranchi.

Immediately after arriving in Ranchi, Koda said that the date for the show of strength was already fixed and and that he stood by his earlier claim of facing the trust vote.

"That day is already fixed. But now an effort is being made to resolve the issue through talks," said Koda reacting to Soren's statement on Saturday of "let Koda face the floor test if he has majority".

Koda had remained non-committal on the question of resigning even till Saturday morning.

To a query that whether he would resign if Sonia Gandhi asked him to do so, he stated, "If she asks for it, I will think over it."

He also said that he would take any decision of resigning "only as per the situation that shapes up after the talks".

Pointing towards the state Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi, an independent who accompanied, Koda claimed that independents trust him after Stephen Marandi said that he did not "support any change of government at this juncture".

"You see the sentiments of Stephen ji," said Koda as proof of his claim.

Soren, meanwhile again claimed on Staurdya that he had the support of both the Congress and the RJD and that he would form the government with support pouring from various quarters.

"I do not know who are going to vote for me but I have the support. Sons of the soil will back me," said Soren.

Meanwhile, RJD, in a statement last week had denied that they were supporting Soren in any way. Lalu Prasad had said that Soren would be chief minister only if he had the numbers.
