Meanwhile, activist Teesta Setalvad complains to EC about Modi.

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s communally-charged political speech in Mangrol – where he virtually justified the killing of Sohrabuddin – has raised the hackles of his political opponents and rights activists alike.

The first to respond was activist Teesta Setalvad of NGO Citizens for Peace and Justice.

She shot off a letter to the Election Commission, complaining Modi was inciting communal passions just ahead of elections.

Setalvad has been working with the victims of Gujarat riots since 2002 and her most prominent client was Zaheera Sheikh.

Leader of the Opposition Arjun Modhwadia also lashed out at Modi, saying he was raising emotional issues since he has little to speak about his administration.

“There is nothing to speak of in Narendra Modi's tenure of six years. In fact there's been no development in BJP's era. They just keep raising emotive issues. First it was Ram Mandir, then Ram Setu and now it's Sohrab," he said.

Congress claims Modi is banking on communal issues to provoke voters.

"It shows the bankruptcy of Narendra Modi. He was claiming he's done great things in Gujarat and as he's failed to get response from people, he's returned to communal agenda. It's not the question of Sohrabbudin, but of law and order," said Congress leader Hari Prasad.

However, BJP has gone on a defensive and has instead attacked Congress for targetting Modi. "It is the Congress which is bringing up these issues. It is the Congress which wants Modi to be brought to international courts. Congress said Hindus are terrorists, it is a Congress' campaign, not BJP's ,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.
