New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Ekta Yatra has split the National Democratic Alliance. Janata Dal (United), an ally of the BJP, on Monday asked the party not to go ahead with flag hoisting plan at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on January 26.

The Janata Dal (United) said that the situation was not conducive in the Kashmir Valley for such a thing.

"It's a sensitive issue. I had expressed my reservation for the Yatra earlier as well. I stick to my stand," said Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav.

Jammu and Kashmir government has sealed the entry points from Punjab like Lakhanpur and Nagri-Narole into the state. Four companies of CRPF have been deployed at the state border to check the entry of the Ekta Yatra. Prohibitory orders (Section 144) have also been imposed in Lakhanpur, which is the border between Punjab and J&K. With the imposition of prohibitory orders public gatherings of more than four people has been banned.

Security has been stepped up in Kashmir Valley too. Security forces have been patrolling Lal Chowk, Bakshi Stadium and also on the Jhelum River. They are keeping a strict vigil in the area and scanning houseboats, looking for BJP activists who might be hiding in them.

Nitish opposes BJP's 'yatra'

BJP ally and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday opposed the party's plan to hoist the national flag in Sringar saying it has 'no meaning' given the

kind of tension prevailing in Kashmir Valley.

"Given the kind of tension that is prevailing in the valley, this yatra (Rashtriya Ekta Yatra) has no meaning and I don't support this", Kumar said when asked about his views on BJP's plan.

Though it is "an internal matter of BJP, I am opposed to the plans. My party President has also been speaking about it", Kumar said.
