No need for PM Modi to answer on 'silly issues', says Sadananda Gowda as Vyapam death toll nears 50
The opposition parties have been demanding a CBI probe into the case claiming that they do not have any faith in the Madhya Pradesh government.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata party-led government seems to be unfazed by any and every sort of allegation even as the death toll in Vyapam scam nears 50. In a surprisingly heartless statement, Union Law Minister DV Sadananda Gowda said there was no need for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the Vyapam scam and brushed it aside as a "silly issue".

"There is no need for PM Modi to answer to silly issues. State has initiated probe, deaths are matter of concern but law and order is a state subject," Gowda said when he was asked whether the PM would reply to the Vyapam deaths.

The multi-crore scam in Madhya Pradesh is becoming murkier with each passing day as at least 48 people have died in the case so far. Even as the Central government has claimed that there is no need for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Supreme Court will be hearing petitions seeking a CBI probe into the scam on July 9.

The Congress has been demanding a CBI probe into the case and said it does not have any faith in the Madhya Pradesh government. The Congress termed the intervention of the apex court in the case as the beginning of the justice. "The investigative arms reporting to the High Court are reporting to the Chief Minister, their hands are tied. We want the justice for those who have died," said Congress leader Tom Vadakkan.

Gowda's remarks have drawn ire on the social media. Here are some of the reactions on twitter:
