New Delhi: The Opposition on Monday slammed the government for the proposal of "sending the amended Lokpal Bill to the Select Committee in a haste", saying that the anti-corruption legislation needs a serious discussion.
The BJP questioned the way in which the Lokpal Bill was proposed, saying any request for sending the Bill to the Select Committee could be only made by the member in-charge, the minister who introduced the Bill. However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that any member was entitled to move the motion.
"The government last evening circulated the amendments. It was suddenly added to agenda today. Now a proposal to send it to Select Committee comes up. Credibility of Parliament is at stake. Government said there were over 190 amendments but amendments were broadly four," Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said.
