Rahul Gandhi Asks What Kind of Hindu is PM Modi, BJP Hits Back With Vigour
The BJP hit back immediately, with the party's spokesperson Amit Malvia, who said that the comment proved that all personal attacks on the PM were sanctioned by the Congress president.

New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi has stirred a controversy by questioning the Hindu quotient of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul alleged that PM Modi doesn't understand the foundation of Hinduism while he was addressing the business community in Mewar district of Rajasthan.

"What is the essence of Hinduism? What does the Gita say? That knowledge is with everybody, knowledge is all around you. Every living being has knowledge. Our PM says he is a Hindu but he doesn't understand foundation of Hinduism. What kind of a Hindu is he?" Rahul Gandhi said.

The BJP hit back immediately, with the party's spokesperson Amit Malvia, who said that the comment proved that all personal attacks on the PM were sanctioned by the Congress president.

BJP president Amit Shah too hit back at the Congress, saying, "The Congress is now preaching us about Hinduism... They are giving us lessons on Gita."

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also reacted sharply saying she wishes the day won't come when people have to learn the meaning of Hinduism from Gandhi.

She said the Congress president himself and the party are confused about his religion and caste.

"The Congress claimed that Rahul Gandhi is a Hindu who wears a Brahminical thread, but I did not know he is so rich in knowledge that now he will teach us the meaning of Hinduism. I wish the day won't come when we have to learn meaning of being a Hindu from Rahul Gandhi," she told reporters here.

Gandhi also raked up the surgical strikes as he slammed PM Modi and his ministers of politicising the army. Gandhi said the Army had done three surgical strikes when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister like the one done under Modi, but no one knew about it because the Army felt it was beneficial of nobody knew about it. But he lashed out at the PM for turning the surgical strike into a “political asset” despite it being a military decision.

“What the Army would have liked was we'll do it, it's beneficial if nobody knows we did it. But Mr Modi didn't want that. He was fighting an election in UP & he was losing it. So he did it to turn a military asset into a political asset,” Gandhi said during a public meeting.
