New Delhi: After taking on Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has now declared an open war against bureaucracy. Kejriwal on Sunday claimed his government has proof that Shakuntala Gamlin was lobbying for power discoms and she tried to pass off a guarantee as a comfort letter.
"A secretary with the power department came to our Power Minister seeking his sign on some papers. When our Power Minister looked into it, he found out those papers were not comfort letters but guarantees. When asked what those papers were, the secretary said Delhi power companies are taking a loan of Rs 11000 crore and this is a comfort letter," Kejriwal said.
Meanwhile, The AAP government has removed the Principal Secretary(Services), Anindo Majumdar, for issuing the appointment letter to Gamlin. However, Jung overturned Kejriwal's decision saying the removal does not have his approval.
A press release issued by Jung's office stated that the order to remove Majumdar "does not have the approval of the Lt Governor, who is the competent authority to transfer officials of that rank. This order is ab-initio void."
The Centre has also hit out at the Delhi Chief Minister accusing him of insulting people from the North East. "This is nothing but character assassination of a lady IAS officer from the Northeast. They are saying she is incapable. What are the charges against her. If she is involved in any corruption, bring charges against her. By making public statements against her, they are just indulging in character assassination, it is an insult to the people of Northeast," Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy also criticised Kejriwal and said, "Kejriwal should be given a constitution 239AA copy. Constitution clearly specifies how to maintain the relationship. He is not full-fledged chief minister. Everything has to go through Lieutenant Governor to President."
Jung had on Friday appointed Gamlin as Delhi Chief Secretary, notwithstanding strong opposition to her nomination by Kejriwal dispensation which alleged that she had close links with BSES discoms. The 1984-batch officer has, however, denied the charges saying they were baseless.
Chief Secretary KK Sharma is in the US on a personal visit due to which the government had to appoint an acting Chief Secretary.
