Ahead of the crucial polls in Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission has begun crackdown on illegal cash in the state. More than 11 crore rupees have been seized in Tamil Nadu over the last two weeks.

Static surveillance teams and flying squads have conducted several raids across Tamil Nadu after the model code of conduct came into effect on the March 4.

Earlier on Monday, over 1,000 cases of violation of the model code of conduct have been registered in eight assembly segments of Erode district, officials said.

They said 1006 cases of violation of election conduct rules like writing party symbols on government buildings and placing election oriented banners in public places, have been registered.
