New Delhi: Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party pulled out of the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Seemandhra, said sources on Wednesday. Sources added that the formal announcement in this regard is likely to be made on Thursday.
Earlier this month, the BJP and the TDP had finalised their pre-poll alliance in Andhra Pradesh. According to the seat-sharing plan, the BJP would have fielded candidates in five Lok Sabha seats out of 25 in Seemandhra. As the Assembly elections are also taking place simultaneously, the BJP got 15 out of 125 Assembly seats in Seemandhra.
The TDP and BJP are in alliance in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.
Even as the alliance was being finalised, both the parties were facing internal resistance. TDP workers were held protests outside Chandrababu Naidu's residence while the Andhra BJP's district heads had also submitted a memorandum opposing the alliance.
