New Delhi: With CPI(M) focusing on Left unity, the CPI said on Sunday it would strive to strengthen Left and democratic unity in the country as both Congress and BJP want be in power by "default".
The CPI would strive for a "militant" unity to struggle on issues concerning people's livelihood with non-Congress and non-BJP parties.
These political and ideological issues would come up for debate at the 21st Congress of CPI in Patna from March 27-31, party national secretary D Raja said.
As part of the Congress, the CPI would hold a rally in Gandhi Maidan on Tuesday while the opening session would be addressed by General Secretaries of CPI(M), RSP, Forward Bloc and CPI-ML (Liberation).
CPI General Secretary AB Bardhan, who is likely to step down at this Congress, would open the inaugural session following which the party would table the draft of political resolution, an organisational report and a political report for debate and approval.
In the draft political report, the CPI has noted that the country was passing through a "critical" phase with Congress "continuing to be in power by default", Raja said.
He said that the BJP also wanted to come to power by default. The CPI would try to keep the regional parties who "wavered" on their alliances at abeyance from "going to the rightist direction".
Raja also said the document noted the social unrest over disapproval of government policies which have led to corruption, price rise and unemployment.
"This unrest should be oriented towards the Left democratic movement on issues of land, jobs, food and health care," he said.
The CPI general secretary also said these were the result of neo-liberal policies which were unsuccessful everywhere.
