The currency crisis seems to have taken a toll on leading mobile wallet Paytm too as users complained that they were unable to make payments. While they are able to recharge their Paytm wallets by using credit or debit cards, the Android app is not responding to payment requests to merchants.
"I had added Rs 500 to my Paytm wallet on Saturday evening for cashless payments but for some reasons I am not able to use it. I cannot enter the mobile number of the merchant to make a payment. This is frustrating," said a user residing in South Delhi.
We visited a couple of merchants that accepts Paytm and they too shared the same story. There is no official word regarding the issue from Paytm.
Several users also pointed out that while they requested for a refund by using the "Send money back to your bank/card" the company notified them that it would take up to seven working days to process the same.
"I am mostly relying on Paytm after the demonetisation drive was announced and it worked out for me. But if problems like this occur, I would soon have to queue in front of an ATM, " said another user.
Given the rush at ATMs and with POS systems failing to tackle the load of transactions, this adds to problem and questions the reliability of mobile wallets.
