Dog With Box Stuck On Its Head Finally Finds Freedom After A Year In US
The rescue team struggled to free the dog for months, as they attempted to use net guns, traps and tranquilisers.

Bear, a Cane Corso dog, faced months of hardship as a box was stuck on his head for months until concerned rescuers in Alabama, US, successfully managed to free him. Rather than finding a new home, Bear’s one of the rescuers, Martin Miller, developed a special bond with the animal and chose to adopt him. The rescue team from the City of Mobile Animal Services had struggled to free the dog for months, as they attempted to use net guns, traps and tranquilizers, but they failed each time. Finally, on February 21, using barricades to narrow Bear’s movement, Miller managed to remove the box from his head and volunteers humanely trapped him in a standard box. In an interview with WKRG, Miller shared that he not only adopted Bear but also gave him his last name.

Interestingly, Bear has been appointed as shelter’s ambassador and his duty includes welcoming shelter visitors during the day and he returns home with Miller each night. Robert Bryant, director of the shelter said, “Trying to find a good home for a dog that’s garnered this much publicity is always a big deal. There’s going to be a ton of people that want to take him home and in this particular case we got to thinking about it and really who better than one of the team members that spent so much time trying to get him off the streets in the first place. After all, Martin was the one that snatched the Box off of his head when we finally got it off."

Martin Miller added, “He has my last name now. Robert and I, we talked at lengths about what we wanted to do with Bear. Just taking the dog home, obviously we have a strict application policy. Robert made sure that we did a behaviour test with my dogs and that everything was fine here. My yard was big enough for a horse this size."

Further, Robert Bryant, revealing how they rescued Bear, shared that various individuals, including people from veterinary offices, county officials, volunteers and workers from the city of Mobile came together for the operation. Around 50 barricades were used to create a barrier and guide Bear into a restricted area. This strategic planning allowed the rescue team to safely remove the box from the dog’s head.

Martin Miller shared how his other dogs responded when Bear first arrived home. According to Miller, the introduction went well, but his smaller dog initially felt scared due to Cane Corso’s massive size, as she never came across such a big animal. However, the rescuer claimed that the dog’s calm behaviour and friendly nature played a crucial role in adjusting with the family.
