Gujarat has been grappling with severe flooding caused by days of heavy rainfall, leading to several incidents of crocodiles intruding into human settlements across Vadodara. Recently, a crocodile was spotted on a house terrace in the Akota Stadium area, and another was seen wading through floodwaters with a dog in its jaws. A third was spotted on a campus of a college. Now, a video of a crocodile being transported on a scooter to forest department in Vadodara has been doing the rounds on social media. Adding to the concern, neither of the two men on the scooter is wearing a helmet.

“The crocodile will also remember the joy of travelling on a two-wheeler. Actually, two young men are taking the crocodile that came out of the Vishwamitra river to the forest department office,” reads the caption to the video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) when translated from Gujarati to English.
The video shows two Indian Medical Association (IMA) volunteers transporting a crocodile to the forest department in Vadodara after it ventured out of its natural habitat. The video also shows the crocodile’s mouth and legs tied with the help of a rope to restrict its movement.
According to reports, there are around 440 crocodiles in the Vishwamitri River and many of them ventured into residential areas nearby due to flooding caused by water release from the Ajwa dam. As many as 24 crocodiles have been rescued by the officials and will soon be released into the river since its water level has dropped significantly.

“Apart from 24 crocodiles, we also rescued 75 other animals, including snakes, cobras, five large turtles weighing nearly 40 kilograms and a porcupine during these three days. There are many residential areas close to Vishwamitri river,” The Hindu quoted Vadodara Range Forest Officer Karansinh Rajput as saying.
“The smallest crocodile we rescued was two feet long, while the largest was 14 feet long, which was caught on Thursday from Kamnath Nagar situated along the river. Local residents alerted us about this huge crocodile. Two other crocodiles, 11 feet long, were also rescued on Thursday from EME Circle and an open area near the Zoology Department of MS University,” Rajput informed.
