Have you ever heard of the death of a snake after biting a person? Yes, you heard it right. Is the human species now more toxic than the King Cobra, the deadliest snake in India? Recently, after a King Cobra bit a snake-catcher in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh this question came up. The cobra passed away while the young man was receiving treatment in the hospital and recovered fully. This peculiar and startling case originates from the Naryavalli police station region in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. About 14 days after the incident, the report arrived at the police station. Recently, the police contacted the snake catcher to take his statement, and this is when the entire situation was revealed.
In Bundelkhand, there is a well-known proverb that goes, “Karia ko kato paani vee nai mangat,” which means that if a person is bitten by a black snake, the poison will take effect so quickly that they won’t even be able to ask for water. After being bitten by a snake this deadly, death is almost a given, but since there have been rumours circulating that the snake passed away following a bite, the topic of conversation has spread throughout the community.
The evidence states that when a cobra snake was spotted close to the barrier on the Sagar-Khurai road in Narayavali, locals phoned snake catcher Chandrakumar Ahirwar.
According to snake catcher Chandrakumar, on July 18, 2024, a snake was spotted close to the city’s major road barrier. After learning the news, he extended his hand to grasp the snake. A 5-foot-long cobra was saved and captured by him. The snake hissed twice at him. It attacked and bit on both of his hand’s thumbs.
Following the snake bite, the family brought Chandrakumar to Bhagyodaya Hospital for treatment. Chandrakumar was released from the hospital after a full recovery. But the snake was discovered to be dead when it was spotted there. According to locals, the cobra was imprisoned in a plastic box by the snake catcher. That box had not a single hole in it. The absence of oxygen caused the cobra to die.
