The unusual food experiments are not just confined to international cuisines, they are slowly touching our traditional recipes as well. After much hyped ice-cream idli to pav bhaji falooda to biryani chai, the latest addition in the weird food combo which has raised the eye-brows is chocolate paratha. This much overrated recipe has failed to tickle the taste buds of foodies, eliciting varied comments on social networking sites. Since the recipe was shared on social media, this unique fusion cuisine has sparked fury among food enthusiasts. Paratha, a traditional flatbread, is typically savoury and filled with ingredients like spiced potatoes or paneer or mixed vegetables.

With an intention to give it a flavourful twist, some food enthusiasts have begun experimenting with sweet fillings, including chocolate. While ‘chocolate paratha,’ might sound enticing to those with a sweet tooth, the concept has been met with scepticism and outright disapproval from many online users. Foodies argue that the combination of chocolate with the savoury base of paratha is an unsettling clash of flavours and textures.

The video was shot by yum yum India, a food vlogging page. The clip opens with the cook at the food stall. The street food vendor starts the preparation with the batter and forms it into a circular shape. Then, instead of potatoes or onions, paratha is stuffed with chocolate mix and fried in oil on a hot tawa, and the chocolate paratha is ready to be served.

As soon as the clip was dropped on the Instagram page, users were quick to react. Many users have expressed their distaste for the dish, with comments ranging from mild disdain to outright incredulity. Some have even shared humorous memes and gifs to convey their scepticism.

A user urged the foodies to click the dislike button. Another wrote, “In childhood mom used to make bread mixed with sugar.” A flurry of similar sentiments flooded the comment sections of posts featuring the controversial dish. “I have ruined my mood in the morning,” commented another. A user mentioned, “Please don’t ruin our food.”

A while ago, a similar recipe, the Cornetto paratha, sparked online debate. People argued that ice cream is one of the items that has been getting thrown into a lot of these bizarre food combinations, like the dosa ice cream or the panipuri ice cream and much more.
