Uttarakhand Woman Dies By Suicide 20 Minutes After Husband Passes Away
Both husband and wife were cremated together on the same pyre by their family.

A tragic incident has occurred in Bhadesar village, Naugaon (Uttarakhand), leaving the entire community in deep sorrow. An elderly man passed away due to illness, and just 20 minutes later, his disabled wife took her own life by setting herself on fire. Following this heartbreaking event, both husband and wife were cremated together on the same pyre by their family. The couple, belonging to a Rajput family, passed away within a short period. Their last rites were performed with equal reverence. The 85-year-old man, Tatura Rajput, had been unwell for the past two to three days and passed away around 2 pm on Monday. Upon hearing the news of her husband’s death, his wife, Jamnabai Rajput, who was disabled, died about 30 minutes later.

Previously, Jamnabai had expressed her desire to perform sati, a traditional practice of dying with one’s husband. Villagers recalled that she had mentioned this intention in the past, but they believed she was speaking in jest. With today’s events, her words resonated with the villagers as they remembered her past statements.

Tatura Rajput had four sons: Khemchandra, Bansidhar, Indrakumar, and Jugal Kishore. Sadly, two of his sons had already passed away — Indrakumar died of cancer a few years ago, and Jugalkishore tragically lost his life after falling into a well.

In another incident, Yogesh Kumar (36), a resident of Hardoi, ended his life on Tuesday, a day after his wife Manikarnika Kumari (28), a paramedic, died in a road accident, police said.

Yogesh was a teacher and the two had married six months ago. According to police, Yogesh had left a note that read, “We will live together and die together.” Manikarnika died in an accident on the Lucknow-Hardoi highway in the Sursa police station area on Monday. Sursa police chief Indresh Kumar Yadav said an unidentified vehicle knocked Manikarnika off her scooter when she was going to Tadiyawana Primary Health Centre where she worked as a nurse.

“With the help of her identity card and mobile number, she was identified and her husband was informed,” SHO Yadav added.

Yogesh reached the spot, took his wife’s belongings before going home and locked himself in a room.

The neighbour, who had come to mourn his wife’s demise, knocked on the door and on receiving no response, broke open the door and found Yogesh hanging from the ceiling. He then informed the police and the body was sent for postmortem.
