A Bhandara service (special free-of-cost meal) turned out to be one of the most horrific occasions for the people who attended it. A video has surfaced on Instagram where a person discovered a snake in the vegetable curry being served to the people.

The video shows someone lifting the snake out of the utensil containing the vegetable curry. One of the persons can be heard saying that the snake is not alive. A closer look at the serpent, however, shows that it is moving thus indicating the signs of life in it. A person says that this snake is counted as the third most poisonous snake in India.

The place where this incident happened is not known and there is no further information about it as well. The clip has garnered more than 7 million views.

Social media users came up with mixed reactions to this video. One of the users wrote that the snake found in this Bhandara is from the Common Sand Boa and is non-venomous. Another wrote that the snake is from the Russell Viper species and is considered the most venomous. A user also wrote that people who have consumed the curry should be immediately taken to the hospital.

A similar incident was recorded in 2023 at a Mid-Day Meal at a government school in Bihar’s Forbesganj, Araria district. Many of the students fell sick after eating the food and were admitted to a hospital for treatment. Reportedly, the students were being served ‘khichdi’ prepared by an NGO, during the mid-day meal when a snake was found in one of the plates. After the incident was reported, the distribution of food was stopped in the school. The students, however, who had already eaten the food started vomiting and were immediately rushed to the Forbesganj hospital. After getting information about the incident, senior district officials including the SDM, the SDO and the DSP rushed to the spot. They took stock of the situation and ordered a probe regarding it.

The villagers alleged that the health condition of over 100 children deteriorated after eating the food. On the other hand, government officials said 25 children had fallen ill and hospitalised.
