‘Imran Should Be Freed’: Ex-Pak PM’s Aide Says Rally Huge Success, Claims Pak Army Chief Munir Acting Arbitrarily
Imran Khan’s close aide and famous Pakistani singer Dr Salman Ahmad said peaceful PTI protesters were attacked by police officers.

The rally organised by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was a huge success and Pakistan police fired tear gas shells on peaceful PTI workers who gathered at the outskirts of capital Islamabad demanding their supremo, Imran Khan, be freed, claimed the former prime minister’s close aide and famous Pakistani singer Dr Salman Ahmad.

“Imran is still the leader and should be released immediately. The rally was a huge success,” Ahmad told CNN-News18.

“Travesty of justice is happening In Pakistan,” he said, referring to the police action on the protesters.

Thousands of supporters of Pakistan’s imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan rallied on the outskirts of the capital, Islamabad on Sunday, demanding his release. He has been in prison for more than a year in connection with more than 150 police cases.

The rally – postponed twice in the last two months – was held near Sangjani Cattle Market after the capital administration issued a no-objection certificate (NOC).

“PTI rally NOC came after a long time and it was in the outskirts of Islamabad. Before (the) rally containers (were) put just to hold people. Thousands came and millions watched online with a message to release Imran Khan,” Ahmad said.

“Tear gas shells were fired on peaceful participants,” he said, adding that PTI will knock on the doors of the European Union (EU), the White House and the UN, highlighting the police action on its protesters.

Ahmad also claimed that Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is acting ‘arbitrarily’.

The PTI and Imran Khan has claimed that Asim Munir is not neutral. “The military establishment has done all they could against me. All that is left for them is to now murder me. I have stated publicly that if anything happens to me or my wife, Gen Asim Munir will be responsible. But I am not afraid because my faith is strong. I would prefer death over slavery,” Khan wrote in an op-ed released earlier this year.

Over 20 people, including a senior cop, were injured in clashes that erupted during the protests.
