Colombo: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will accompany visiting Indian premier Narendra Modi during his historic visit to the country's war-ravaged northern region.

Sirisena and Wickremesinghe will travel with the Indian leader on Saturday to the sacred city of Anuradhapura, the capital of North Central Province, government sources said.

Later, Wickremesinghe will accompany with Modi to the Tamil-dominated Jaffna in the Northern province, they added. Modi is the second prime minister to visit Jaffna after Britain's David Cameron in November 2013.

Sri Lanka is the final stop of Modi's three-nation tour of Indian Ocean island nations that took him to Seychelles and Mauritius. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Sri Lanka in 28 years.
