After Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Loss to the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Playoff Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Wednesday by four wickets, the RCB dressing room wore a disappointed and sad look. RCB went into the game on the back of a six-match winning streak. Despite the fact they had to scratch and claw their way to the playoffs in the 4th spot while Rajasthan Royals never moved out of the top 4, RCB were the favourites against RR, who themselves were in the middle of a slump in form, having lost four straight games.

However, on the day, RR proved to be the better team by first restricting RCB to a below-par total of 172 and then managing the chase well to win with one over to spare.
After the match, the RCB players, visibly affected by the loss, trundled back to their changing room. Dinesh Karthik’s farewell match and the celebrations were also quite muted. But the real sense of RCB players’ dejection was palpable in the changing room. The RCB team’s social media handle shared a video of players reflecting on the loss, and from the visuals, it is clear that this loss deeply affected them.

Virat Kohli, buried in his phone, looked visibly disappointed while talking about the match. Despite looking at the positive side of things and lauding his team for their comeback effort, the skipper Faf du Plessis couldn’t hide his deflation with the loss.

“Sad that as a group can’t give that final two steps to get to the trophy. But if I look back on the season, you know, from where we were to where we finished, I’m very proud of the boys.” He added.
Dinesh Karthik conceded that it was a day when things did not go their way.
“Things turned around winning six out of six. We felt like, wow, this is going to be the year. But sport, as always, there’s no fairytale endings. There’s always a hard day, one day which doesn’t go your way. And today was the day.,” said Karthik.
