Most sixes in an IPL innings

With their blistering innings, SRH broke a plethora of records, mainly besting their own record-total of 277 set in a single innings.

But, another record that brings to light the sheer firepower that SRH possess is that of the most sixers scored in a single innings, which the visitors achieved today as well.

SRH’s innings was peppered with 22 sixes, from the likes of centurion Travis Head and Heinrich Klassen primarily, besting the previous record of 21 sixes, which was set by their rivals today, RCB, back in 2013.

In fact, let us take a look at the top five innings that were peppered with the most maximums in the history of the IPL:

  1. 22 — SRH vs RCB Bengaluru 2024
  2. 21 — RCB vs PWI Bengaluru 2013
  3. 20 — RCB vs GL Bengaluru 2016
  4. 20 — DC vs GL Delhi 2017
  5. 20 — MI vs SRH Hyderabad 2024

Most sixes in a T20 match

Well, it wasn’t only SRH who lit the Bengaluru skies on fire, but the hosts themselves as well. With the aide of trailbalzing innings from skipper Faf du Plessis, and veteran Dinesh Karthik, RCB also notched up 16 sixes of their own.

In total, this meant that the Chinnaswamy witnessed a total of 38 sixes being let loose, which is tied for the most sixes scored in a T20 match, with none other than the thrilling encounter between SRH and MI earlier this month.

Here is a list of the other T20 matches which featured the most sixes:

  1. 38 — SRH vs MI Hyderabad 2024
  2. 38 — SRH vs RCB Bengaluru 2024 *
  3. 37 — Balkh Legends vs Kabul Zwann Sharjah 2018
  4. 37 — Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Basseterre 2019

Highest totals in IPL

Sunrisers Hyderabad did it again! In a matter of three weeks, SRH batters have not only set the record for the highest-ever total in IPL and franchise cricket history but broke their record with yet another jaw-dropping display of power hitting.

SRH batters ransacked 287 runs against a hapless Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowling attack on Monday after their 277-run effort against Mumbai Indians on March 27. Thus bettering their record for the highest-ever total in IPL and franchise league history.

Here is the list of the highest-ever totals posted in the IPL:

  1. 287/3 — SRH vs RCB Bengaluru 2024
  2. 277/3 — SRH vs MI Hyderabad 2024
  3. 272/7 — KKR vs DC Vizag 2024
  4. 263/5 — RCB vs PWI Bengaluru 2013
  5. 257/7 — LSG vs PK Mohali 2023

Highest totals in T20 cricket

SRH’s 287-run blitzkrieg is also the second-highest total in the history of T20 cricket so far, only outdone by the umimaginable 314-run innings notched up by the Nepal Cricket Team in their clash with Mongolia Hangzhou in 2023.

For reference, here is the list of the highest-ever totals registered in T20 cricket:

  1. 314/3 — Nepal vs Mongolia Hangzhou 2023
  2. 287/3 — SRH vs RCB Bengaluru 2024
  3. 278/3 — Afghanistan vs Ireland Dehradun 2019
  4. 278/4 — Czech Rep vs Turkey Iflov Country 2019
  5. 277/3 — SRH vs MI Hyderabad 2024

Big totals require big partnerships. Multiple partnerships indeed. And that is also exactly what transpired tonight as a record total of seven  50+ partnerships were drawn up in this match, when there haven’t been more than five in any T20 match previously.

Yet another baffling statistic is that three of the five 250+ totals in IPL history have come in 2024 edition alone. Well, with a big chunk of the season remaining, and with the fiery presence of squads such as SRH, one can bank on the possibility of witnessing a few more perhaps in this season itself.
