New Delhi: Brazil put on a superlative display in their 2010 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador at the Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janerio routing their opponents 5-0.
The match was the first at the Maracana Stadium in seven years and after an indifferent start the hosts got on the scoresheet in the 19th minute. Vagner Love started the scoring spree connecting a Maicon cross to put his team ahead.
But after taking the lead Brazil had to wait till the 71st minute to increase their lead.
Ronaldinho finally widened the score on a fluke play in the 71st minute when Kaka fired from long range and the Barcelona striker put his foot out and deflected the ball just out of the reach of Viteri for a 2-0 lead.
Kaka fires a long range shot only for the ball to deflect off Ronaldinho's foot into the goal. That opened the floodgates and the five-time world champions added three more before the final whistle with Kaka scoring two of them.
Elano was the other scorer for the hosts.
In their opening qualifier Brazil drew 0-0 against Colombia.
For Ecuador, it was their second lose following the 1-0 defeat in at home against Venezuela.
In other South America qualifiers, Chile beat Peru 2-0 while Paraguay got the better of Uruguay by a solitary goal.
Colombia and Bolivia drew goalless.
Argentina lead the South America qualifiers table with six points while Brazil and Paraguay are joint second with four points. Uruguay, Chile and Venezuela have three points each followed by Colombia on two with Bolivia and Peru one each.
Ecuador are yet to earn a point.
The top four teams advance to the World Cup, while the fifth placed finisher enters a playoff with the fourth-placed CONCACAF qualifier.
