7/11 brings wave of sympathy for BPOs
The string of blasts in Mumbai have brought sympathy from different parts of the world to call centre employees.

Mumbai: The 7/11 blasts have brought with it a wave of sympathy from around the world. In fact call centre Executives in Mumbai's BPOs say there's been a sea change in the attitude of foreign clients who deal with them.

There are smiling faces all around in BPOs because calls to America or London are no more greeted with abuse or curt replies something rare before the July terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Now, all they get are words of concern.

“After 7/11 we found a change in their tone. They were more sympathetic towards us,” Senior Manager, STREAM, Yagnesh Panchal said.

Senior Executive, STREAM, Shuaa Khan adds, “They specifically asked us, are you people allright? Don’t travel by train, use other ways to travel.”

Deputy Manager, STREAM, Prabhu Joseph says there's a visible change in attitude from his foreign clients. “Earlier they used to be really irritated. Now we see a different response from them. They like to hear from us. Are you from India they ask?” Prabhu says.

But there’s good reason for that. Indian's too have made efforts earlier to bridge the cultural gap.

“Earlier when you had Katrina, we would actually say ‘I hope everything is fine with you and your family'. Now it’s the reverse,” Vice President Sales, INTELENET, Sandeep Aggarwal says.

What's your reaction?
