MADURAI: ‘Attack’ Pandi, a key suspect in the Dinakaran assault case, was on Friday arrested in connection with a land grab case. The case had come under the scanner after the AIADMK government, which took over in May, started digging up land-grabbing cases.According to police sources, Pandi’s cousin and nephew who had taken on lease a prime property from a couple in Thirumalai Naicker Palace area, refused to vacate it after the lease expired, using his political clout—Pandi is known to be close to Union Minister M K Alagiri.As soon as Madurai City Police Commissioner P Kannappan assumed charge, all petitions regarding land grabbing were scrutinised.Pandi and his associates were interrogated by the police on Friday night and subsequently arrested.During DMK rule, Pandi was made chairman of the Agricultural Marketing Committee, a post he was stripped of when the Dinakaran case neared its verdict. Pandi and the other accused were acquitted, as eyewitnesses turned hostile. Pandi is the first DMK man to be arrested in the district.
